Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum — the thin wall of cartilage and bone that separates the two nostrils. When the septum is crooked or displaced, it can block airflow, leading to chronic nasal congestion, breathing difficulties, snoring, or recurrent sinus infections. By straightening and repositioning the septum, septoplasty improves nasal airflow and overall nasal function.
The procedure is typically performed under local or general anesthesia and is often done as a day-care surgery. During septoplasty, the surgeon carefully reshapes or removes parts of the septum to create a clear airway without changing the external appearance of the nose. Recovery usually takes one to two weeks, with most patients experiencing significant relief from their symptoms once healing is complete.
