Tongue-Tie Release

Tongue-tie release (also called frenotomy or frenuloplasty) is a minor surgical procedure to treat ankyloglossia — a condition where the band of tissue under the tongue (the frenulum) is too short or tight. This restriction can affect an infant’s ability to breastfeed, or in older children and adults, can interfere with speech, oral hygiene, and tongue movement. By carefully releasing or reshaping the frenulum, the procedure restores normal tongue mobility and improves feeding, speech, and oral comfort.

The procedure is typically quick and performed under local anesthesia for older children and adults, or with minimal discomfort in infants. Most patients experience immediate improvement in tongue movement and only mild soreness afterward. With proper after-care and, if needed, speech therapy or feeding support, tongue-tie release can lead to long-term functional and developmental benefits.
