Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils — two small glands located at the back of the throat. This operation is often recommended for individuals who experience recurrent tonsillitis, persistent throat infections, breathing difficulties during sleep (such as obstructive sleep apnea), or enlarged tonsils that cause swallowing problems. By removing the tonsils, the procedure aims to reduce the frequency of infections, improve breathing, and enhance overall throat health.

The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and is done as a day-care or short hospital-stay procedure. Recovery usually takes about one to two weeks, during which patients may experience a sore throat and need to follow a soft-food diet. With proper post-operative care and follow-up, most people experience significant relief from symptoms and an improved quality of life.
